This is a product that I believe will have tremendous impact on how networks and teleports address QC. Typically video and audio are ingested real time from a tape machine, Server or over satellite. The workflow of this operation is time consuming but then to have to go back go back and play that file out through the use of a decoder and a person and some equipment to verify the content and QC.
One of the first products reviews on this blog K-Will Corporation does this in an exceptional manner. This however takes a different approach to the whole workflow. Tektronix makes this product named SyncCertTM.
We are going to be seeing a live demo at a customer site of this product in January and I look forward to adding to this post with some results on what we were able to see with regard to workflow and user functionality.
SyncCert is a system for checking and measuring video & audio synchronization for a file-based digital video content and it can provide an accurate means of detecting sync errors before they are visually detectable. Operating in both standard definition and high-definition both 720p and 1080i and also 4:2:2 and 4:4:4.
SyncCert automatically identifies the video frame number and audio frame number based upon embedded codes. These codes are then used to measure the video & audio sync and report this to the alert mechanism, alert log and in user interfaces. SyncCert can analyze files, which can be captured at any point in the program or broadcast stream, so that you can identify which area of your facility is causing the loss of video & audio sync. SyncCert allows the alert limits on audio lead and lag to be separately specified.
This system can be used by Broadcasters – for checking video & audio synchronization after ingest at any point in the broadcast chain and for Content Providers – To check Production and or the encoding chain to ensure that it is not introducing video & audio sync errors.
